2017 bikini trends

Halter Neck

The halter neck bikini is the hottest trend of the season. They offer a nice variation to the usual dual-strap bikini and are very useful for mixing up strap positioning to avoid tan lines. Flattering for all body shapes and bust sizes, the halter bikini is perfect for everyone. This paisley red version from H&M is gorgeous.

Tassels

Believe it or not, that early 2000s trend of tassels is back, only this time it’s on our beachwear. You can go subtle or in-your-face with this trend; here at Jive Hippo we’re big fans of the Pocahontas look, so tan bikini and coloured tassels all round in the office. This bikini from River Island keeps it simple and elegant, with just two coloured tassels on either side of the bikini bottoms.

Cover Ups

A big trend from the swimwear shows this summer is cover-ups. They’re great for saving your skin from blistering heat and ideal for transitioning from the beach to the bar. Th bolder the better seems to be the trend right now, so expect to see some wild colours and inventive cuts. This sleeveless beach maxi is a perfect example of taking street wear to the beach, cool, flirty and fashionable.

Straps

Seriously sexy and seriously cool, strappy bikinis are bang on trend. A good way of revealing skin without revealing too much skin. Be careful though, straps aren’t flattering for everyone, so be sure to try before you buy. This orange bikini from New Look is gorgeous and demonstrates perfectly how less can often be more.

Plunging one-piece

Not strictly a bikini, but plunging one-pieces are a good alternative and worth considering. In terms of revealing skin, you basically swap midsection for cleavage, so I guess it depends on what mood you’re in. A firm celebrity favourite, everyone from Rihanna to Kendall Jenner has been sporting the plunging swimsuit and now you can too with this super sexy and colourful number from TopShop.
